An emotional weekend of remembrance as we follow in the footsteps of our World War II Canadian military heroes of Operation Switchback, along the liberation route to Knokke-Heist, Belgium. The Canadian Liberation march is an annual celebration of one of the more significant events in our history: The Liberation of the Scheldt Estuary by the First Canadian Army in the fall of 1944. We were privileged to join the Canadian Forces Contingent on the 33 km day-long march through the countryside and liberated towns of the Netherlands and northern Belgium on Sunday, greeted with fluttering Canadian flags and a heartfelt welcome from the Dutch and Belgium citizens lining the route to greet us. We are honoured to live here in Holland as civilians with the Canadian Forces in Europe, and this proud weekend of remembrance and message of peace will be forever in our hearts and our memories!

  1. I know what you mean Brian and I spent two weeks in Holland going to the Canadian cemeteries and seeing all the places that the Canadian forces had fought. ce
